Allergies and Your Eyes

Many people, particularly in Central Indiana, suffer from allergies.  Some of the symptoms of allergies are as follows:
  • Red, irritated eyes
  • Dry eyes
  • Itching and burning eyes
  • Dry, scaly eyelids
  • Uncomfortable contact lenses

There are a number of treatments for allergic responses in your eyes:
  • Over-The-Counter (OTC) eyedrops
  • Prescribed eyedrops
  • Oral medications
  • Changing the type of contact lenses you are wearing
  • Changing your contact lens cleaning regimen
  • Reducing the hours you wear your contacts

At your eye exam we will discuss options for your particular situation and design a treatment plan specifically for you.

We strongly recommend 1-Day contact lenses for all patients with allergy problems.  You will wear a fresh, sterile lens everyday.  This reduces complications from solutions, oil and mucous the lens picks up, and other potential irritants.  1-Day lenses are also very affordable in the 90 lens packs.  Ask us about them at your eye exam.
