Allergies and Your Eyes
Many people, particularly in Central Indiana, suffer from allergies. Some of the symptoms of allergies are as follows:
- Red, irritated eyes
- Dry eyes
- Itching and burning eyes
- Dry, scaly eyelids
- Uncomfortable contact lenses
There are a number of treatments for allergic responses in your eyes:
- Over-The-Counter (OTC) eyedrops
- Prescribed eyedrops
- Oral medications
- Changing the type of contact lenses you are wearing
- Changing your contact lens cleaning regimen
- Reducing the hours you wear your contacts
At your eye exam we will discuss options for your particular situation and design a treatment plan specifically for you.
We strongly recommend 1-Day contact lenses for all patients with allergy problems. You will wear a fresh, sterile lens everyday. This reduces complications from solutions, oil and mucous the lens picks up, and other potential irritants. 1-Day lenses are also very affordable in the 90 lens packs. Ask us about them at your eye exam.
